The first US president to be convicted of a felony, Donald Trump, escapes jail time and punishment



 Today, a US judge upheld Donald Trump's conviction in a hush money case, making him the first felon in the White House. A 'unconditional discharge' has been imposed upon him for concealing unreported payments to a porn star.

Despite being found guilty of his charges, the president-elect will not be imprisoned or subject to any penalties because he has been elected president of the United States and will take the oath of office on January 20. This position carries with it the immunity of being above the law both while in office and after.

Therefore, even though Donald Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of fabricating corporate records in May 2024, the judge was powerless to stop it and ultimately had to spare the president-elect.

The judge had no choice but to grant the former president a "unconditional discharge" because the constitution protected the nation's highest position.
