A new evacuation order was issued for parts of the Brentwood neighborhood on Friday night as the Palisades Fire, the largest of six active fires in the Los Angeles area, moved east. According to L.A. County spokesperson Jesus Ruiz, the flare-up was a "significant development" and the fire is spreading quickly as authorities scramble to prevent it from reaching populated areas. According to Cal Fire, the fires have destroyed over 12,000 buildings and forced tens of thousands to relocate, killing at least 11 people and burning over 37,000 acres, an area larger than San Francisco. The Eaton Fire has burned over 14,000 acres, while the Palisades Fire is the largest, spanning over 21,000 acres. The percentage of those fires is 8% and 3%, respectively percentage contained, in that order.

At a Cal Fire report Friday night, meteorologist Rich Thompson stated that firefighters would likely encounter challenging circumstances through at least Wednesday.
Although a change in wind patterns caused a flare-up in the Palisades Fire toward the east that evening, authorities had thought that Friday night's reduced winds would provide some measure of relief. According to Thompson, north-northeast winds were predicted to strengthen on Saturday and Sunday before waning on Sunday evening and Monday. He predicted that the weather will be "very, very dry."
According to Thompson, another round of Santa Ana winds might arrive on Monday night and last through Wednesday. Santa Ana windstorms have contributed to the spread of the fires in Los Angeles by fanning flames and carrying potentially hazardous embers. Although he added that the winds would not be "anywhere near as strong as we saw when the fire ignited," he stated that "you could potentially see gusts in excess of 60 miles an hour across the fire" early next week.
With a 40 percent chance of light rain and light winds by the end of next week, the National Weather Service stated in a Friday afternoon update that it had "moderate confidence in relief forming by Thursday."
