World leaders paid tribute to the life and humanitarian achievements of former US President James Earl Jimmy Carter, who has died at the age of 100. Carter, a military officer, Nobel Peace Prize winner, peanut farmer and later the 39th president of the United States, died on Sunday, December 29 at his home in Plains, Georgia.
He served one term as president from 1977 to 1981, but was also known for his humanitarian work after leaving Washington, D.C., working for Habitat for Humanity and arguing for integration.
President Donald Trump said he owed Carter "a great debt of gratitude," while President Joe Biden called him "a wonderful friend." Former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, praised Carter as "the longest-serving and most successful president in American history."
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer praised Carter's "great commitment to justice and human rights," while King Charles III thanked the former president for "promoting peace."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the former president "stood with us in our continued struggle for freedom." Israeli President Isaac Herzog described Carter as "brave and See More"
